Gravel vacs are a must for anyone with an aquarium that is more than five gallons and they are an absolute necessity for aquariums from 10 gallon to 1,000 gallons.

The simplest gravel vacs we carry are the Python Pro-Clean Gravel Vacs that consist of a vacuum tube from 10" to 24" and six feet of hose. Simply submerge the entire apparatus in the aquarium until the entire Gravel Vac is filled with water and then run the hose to a bucket sitting by the aquarium. Use the vacuum tube to suck detritus out of the gravel/sand. The Pro-Clean Gravel Vacs will remove some water along with the detritus--providing the perfect opportunity to do a water change while cleaning your gravel.

The Python No Spill Clean and Fill Gravel Vacs and the Hagen Marina AquaVacs come with either 25 foot or 50 foot hoses and are designed to hook the output hose to a standard sink faucet. This eliminates a need for a bucket and is especially useful with larger aquariums where you might be removing 10 or more gallons from your aquarium for a water change.
