I purchased this to use as a return pump for my 180 gal. I set it up to run externally. Unfortunately, it is too loud for my family room. I replaced it. Very powerful and reliable but runs loud like all MAG pumps. Recommended for those that need power but dont mind the noise. While it says it can be run externally, it is really designed to be run submerged.

This pump is best mounted externally because of the heat it puts off. Be sure to put padding underneath it to quiet it down. It really puts out the water. Mag pumps are awesome pumps. Years of service.

Using it inline, so little loud at first, but once ball valves were adjusted to allow for ultimate flow, and pump ran for a while, not so noisy. Very powerful. Running for about a month or so. So far, so good.
