The AquaCave site doesn't mention it and neither does the packing. The only place where "for freshwater" appears is in tiny 4 point print on the body of the unit - visible only after you unpack it!

This is a great vacuum for cleaning up debris from gravel. It has a long extendable rigid tube for deep tanks. Just sweep through the gravel with adapter and watch the debris get pulled up and into the discharge collection cotton bag attached to the top of the unit. The algae adapter I did not find that useful. The vacuum has two little quirks though: (1) As the bag begins to fill with debris the water pressure builds up inside the bag until eventually it pops off the discharge tube. Need to watch the bag and clean it out before the pressure builds up too much. I just detach it with the discharge tube still attached and immerse in a commode bowl, remove the bag and then flip inside out to loosen all the accumulated debris, and then a once over in the sink in rinse it off and you are ready to go another round. (2) The on/off switch on the top of the unit has a tendency not make complete contact and the unit does not stay powered on. Just a little coercion gets it to stay on. Maybe this particular unit is defective.
Overall I think this is a great product and would highly recommend it.
