I wanted a quality protein skimmer with a small footprint, and the staff at Aqua Cave, recommended the Skim Z Monzter SM 161. From the time I opened the box, I have been extremely happy with the product. It is made with very thick acrylic and the pump produces a tremendous amount of bubblbes. It took about a week before it started pulling out crud that I did not even know existed in the tank.
The instructions were virtually non existent, but assembly is fairly straight forward. If not, you can always call the staff who are more than willing to help. If you want a great skimmer with a small footprint, this is the skimmer for you.

The only other skimmer I've owned is the ASM G3, and this thing has been solid thus far. One thing to note, you should put every effort to run it at 9.5" of water as instructed. Tweaking the air/output gives really inconsistent results each time, but getting it at 9.5" allows you to fully open the air intake and water exhaust. Works like a charm on my 178.
