Fluval Spec is a contemporary-looking aquarium designed for small areas such as desktops and countertops. This 5 gallon etched-glass aquarium with aluminum trim combines style and functionality in one small package. Though small in stature, Fluval Spec is big on features. It comes with a sleekly-designed overhanging lighting system, consisting of 37 powerful LED lamps, that arches above the aquarium to provide brilliant illumination for plants and décor. The aquarium includes a powerful circulation pump with adjustable output nozzle and a large 3-stage filtration system that provides more than enough filtration for ultra clean and clear water. It also comes with all the necessary filter media: a porous foam block with convenient handle, activated carbon and BioMax bio rings for effective and thorough mechanical, chemical and biological filtration. The pump and filtration system are conveniently located in a separate chamber at one end of the aquarium to simplify maintenance

Excellent aquarium for a Betta fish

Posted by Melao on Sep 21st 2023

I did order 2 Fluval Spec V (5 gallons) to house 2 of my new Bettas. The tank is excellent, the back filter desing is good and can also be improved with extra market accessories. The delivery came on time and in excellent packaging. I definitely recommend aquarium kit if you have or plan to acquire a Betta fish. The peninsula style design of the tank and its modern look is outstanding, not to mention the light that is excellent for low to medium light plants.

    great tank and great service

Posted by Scott on May 22nd 2020

My tank arrived along with other items i ordered and box was heavily damaged. Everything looked ok until i opened the tank to set it up 3 days later. Tank had a crack and chip in upper corner. AquaCave sent out a new tank once i notified them with pictures of box and aquarium damage. New tank arrived in great shape and is now holding plants, and is being cycled.

I would recommend a few things with this tank, some fine mesh to put over intake if you have tiny fry, snails or shrimp. Also a small heater will fit in the back filter area but I drilled 2 holes in tube from pump to allow for better circulation where heater/pump sit and it has worked great. Tank stays steady with temperature. 3rd the cover, sigh the cover. If you don't mind filling it every few days then its not a problem. I decided to make an acrylic top for uncovered area on cover. I cut a think 1/8 inch acrylic sheet slightly bigger all around than opening. Then i purchased some 1/8 inch square acrylic rods off amazon. Cut them to fit both long sides and 1 of the 2 short sides. Super Glue them into place and now i have a cover i can remove and hold in a lot of the water until next water change. So far seems to be working well and evaporation is minimal.

Overall a great desktop tank and i cannot wait to get a few shrimp and celestial pearl danios in there to look at while i work at home computer.

    Great little, up-gradable tank.

I use my Spec V as a red cherry shrimp tank on my desk at work. I switched out the light with a Current USA Satellite Pro Plus, switched out the filter with a InTank Media Caddy, and have a 50 watt heater on an external controller. I find the tank works great with shrimp, however you may want to add a mesh covering over the intake for the filter's and the emergency intake. I have them slightly covered and on rare occasion do find shrimp in the filter section. It is very narrow so make sure you get narrow items for your aquascape. The stock pump, filter, and light all work well. While the light does work on a timer, it will change to the last setting it was at when the power is turned on, you can not have it switch between day and night mode automatically. There is enough room in the pump chamber to fit a heater. The Hydor 50W fits great! I can go a week between topping off the tank, but find it's much better to top it off twice a week. I would definitely recommend it!
