The Hydro Sponge filters provides both mechanical and biological filtration. Aerobic bacteria colonize the sponge, providing a bacterial substrate to facilitate the nitrogen cycle. In addition, the Hydro-Sponge traps larger waste particles, mechanically cleaning the water without trapping the baby fish.

- Hydro Sponge II, up to 20 gal.

Great product. Review by sally
I use sponge filters on my QT tank. I was in a hurry a while back and had to buy one that was too small for the job, so this is the replacement. These are easy to use, but because I don't like to clean a filter every week my main filter is an Eheim canister. However, I know people that use these as their main filter and they just are a neat little filter. (Posted on 11/13/2011)

Hydro Sponge III, up to 30 gal. Review by spike
I bought two of these to help out in my 37g and 29g tanks and they are great. They really help with my ammonia/nitrite levels. (Posted on 5/1/2009)

wonderful Review by LG
First time using. I thought my water was clean with regular filtration. But first time (one week) rinsing the sponge out I couldn't believe all it had collected. Now my tank sparkles! Although large, (IV)its very easy to conceal. (Posted on 4/5/2009)
Hydro Sponge Filter Review by Discus
Great product! Good way to start bios in new tanks and if you have small fish they wont get sucked up in the filter. Great place for fry to eat from. They are in all my tanks and there are many of them. (Posted on 1/24/2009)
Hydro Sponge IV Review by JSWolck
I have three aquariums; two 30 gallon tanks and one 10 gallon tank for Guppy fry. I could NOT get my 10 gallon tank to cycle until I placed a Hydro Sponge into it. (I even tried using water from my older, larger tanks, but to NO avail!)
I already had a really nice filter, with a Bio-Wheel, in my 10 gallon tank, but a few days after placing the Hydro-Sponge IV (huge) in my smallest tank, the ammonia went away and my nitrites disappeared, and my nitrates finally went to a normal reading. I also have them in my two larger tanks. I highly recommend them.
This was my first purchase from Aqua Cave. I was very impressed with their customer service.
