IceCap Electronic ballast will power any metal halide 250-watt bulb. It does not over-drive the bulb, so output will be at the bulb manufacturer's specifications.
By using a constantly changing, very high frequency, the ballast will light any bulb without flicker. Longer bulb life and other features makes this the best ballast for all metal halide applications.

IceCap uses its unique, patented operating system, which allows you to save energy without compromising light output. By applying lower voltage across the lamp, energy consumption is reduced and lamp life is expected to be increased.

Only good things to say about this setup. Aquacave recomended upgrading the reflector (I got the mini Lumibright) instead of buying 2 copies with the cheaper one. Definitely a good call; I can add a second lamp later. The ballast is small, runs cool, starts great. I went with the 14k Hamilton bulb and am very happy with the color (running only this and a couple of LunarLight LED; no room for actinics).
