In today’s advanced aquarium hobby we have access to some wonderful tools meant to automate and regulate some complex aspects of our water chemistry.
Two such tools are CO2 Reactors to maintain optimum pH values and to source the precious carbon dioxide for proper live plant respiration and Calcium reactors where CO2 gas is used to drop the pH inside the reaction chamber in order to dissolve the Hydro carbonate media.
A critical aspect common to both of these tools is that the amount of CO2 dosed is determined by the desired pH. The use of an M-Ventil solenoid valve, plugged into a pH Computer, allows the CO2 input to be switched on and off automatically to achieve the desired pH value.
The pH Computer is a microprocessor run pH monitor and controller that provides high precision measurement and control. The waterproof proof front panel includes soft touch keys to set the operating values and to calibrate the electrode.
The switching bandwidth (hysteresis) is adjustable over a wide range to define the amount of pH drift allowed before switching. With the pH Computer you can set the control direction up or down, allowing you to use the computer in High Mode to activate a pump dosing Kalkwasser to maintain a high pH, or in Low Mode for dosing CO2 to maintain a low pH.
The Aqua Medic pH Computer includes an electrode (AM78006, high pressure, threaded) and a complete set of calibration fluids.
Calibration is easier too, simply submerge the electrode in the calibration solution and push the corresponding CAL button. The pH Computer automatically calibrates itself to the solution.
ORP (Oxygen Reduction Potential) is not an easy water quality parameter to fully understand. Fortunately you need to know little more than that it is measured in mV and that it will be the measure by which we switch Ozone Generators and the pumps that regulate Nitratereductors.
