The MR series refractometers are precision optical instruments used for measuring aquarium water salinity. They work using principle of light refraction through liquid. When passing light through a liquid the refracted angle will be shown on the scale determining the amount of salt in the water. Very easy to use; simply place one drop of water on the prism and read the results on the scales immediately. They have adjustable focus, easy to read numbers for good resolution, and zero adjustment screw for calibration.
These refractometers have Automatic Temperature Compensation feature and are suitable for application where the temperature of the samples vary.
Each refractometer comes in a hard protective carrying case and includes calibration screwdriver, pipette, and instructions.

If you don't have one of these get one. The first time I used it I found out my salinity was a full 10 ppt too high. Make this tool part of your arsenal.

Throw you inaccurate hydrometer away

This is a great product! For the price of what marine fish cost this is a small price to pay to be sure your salinity is correct. The problem with those cheap $15 hydrometers is that the readings taken with them is never consistent because they tend to get bubbles on the swing arm throwing your reading off as well as other factors such as the temp of your water. In my experience you would b wise to throw your old hydrometer away and buy a refractometer such as this one.

If you want a successful reef aquarium you need this instrument. Dont trust your cheap hydrometer. When it comes to highly accurate stable marine environments this cant be beat.
