Purigen Filter Media by Seachem.
Purigen™ is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds all others by over 500%.
Purigen™ controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds. Purigen’s™ impact on trace elements is minimal. It significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity.
Purigen™ darkens progressively as it exhausts, and is easily renewed by treating with bleach. Purigen™ is designed for both marine and freshwater use. T
Rinse before use. Use in a fine mesh filter bag. Each 1 L treats up to 4,000 L (1,000 gallons*) for up to six months. Exhaustion is indicated by a pronounced discoloration of the beads to dark brown or black.
Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metalic container in a well ventilated area and away from children. Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 2 tablespoons of ChlorGuard™, Prime™, or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well. For freshwater use, soak for 4 hours with a solution containing 1 tablespoon of buffer per cup of water (Discus Buffer™, Neutral Regulator™, or Acid Buffer™). Original color and full activity should now be restored and Purigen™ is ready for reuse. Caution: some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen™ and render regeneration difficult. Do not reuse if odor of chlorine is detectable. In case of doubt, soak beads in small quantity of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.

Wouldn't run a tank without it Review by Tyler
A great product, and a good supplement to an appropriately sized protein skimmer. When using large quantities, hand tumble the media in its bag, to prevent the exterior media from exhausting unevenly. (Posted on 1/8/2017)
excellent Review by Christina
WITH-IN 1 HOUR YOU COULD SEE THE DIFFERANCE IN MY 55 GAL. TANK AND I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY WATER. I WILL SOON SET ALL MY REMAINING TANKS UP THE SAME WAY USEING PURIGEN. (Posted on 8/18/2015)
Love it Review by David
I love the fact this product is rechargeable and reusable. This makes your money go a lot further. Just realize it is a fine grained product and you need to buy an appropriate media bag to contain it. I have used this stuff in my filters for years instead of carbon and am happy with my water quality using it. (Posted on 11/1/2014)
Purigen Review by Mike
A little goes a long way. Used in a filter media bag in sump. Add small amounts at a time if your nitrates or phosphates are high, if you do not want an immediate drop in one and/or the other. Water was crystal clear. (Posted on 2/21/2012)
Very Efficient Review by John
Excellent media for wide spectrum removal use and can clean and reuse.
Only problem is trying to keep all together while re-generating with bleach and moving around.
But a five star product for sure. (Posted on 9/13/2009)
A good product Review by Eugene
I use it to remove nitrate.Keeps 0ppm about one month or more plus absorbing all organic waste very effectively. Bring Purigen back to normal condition is hard and takes a lot of time and effort.I believe regeneration is the weakest point of the product. (Posted on 8/3/2009)
GREAT STUFF Review by TRIKES
What more do you need to know, its made by Seachem.
If your running carbon start using Purigen. Carbon exhausts very fast, as fast as within two weeks depending on bio load.
That's why I use this product. The fact that it can be regenerated is also a plus.
