Far less than expected!!! Review by Josh Smith
I bought this skimmer about a year ago to replace my heavily nodded Coralife 125 Super Skimmer and this Super Skimmer is the older hang on or in sump with the cheap no name Taiwanese pump that went up roughly 3 months after I bought it! So I put a mag 5 skimmer pump with a mesh modded impeller and it pulls more out of the water in any given day than the Octopus SRO 1000 int that I spent 300 dollars on and the Super Skimmer doesn't skim 24/7 either usually about an hour or 2 a day!! My nitrate levels were a lot lower with the Super skimmer and now I'm doing more water changes with the Octopus!!! Oh and by the way these skimmers are supposed to sit in 5.5 inches of water as per Coral Cue as soon as I did that all my overflowing stopped!!! But again I'm just not sold on these cone skimmers in my experience the normal conical old school style skimmers seem to be more effective at removing waste from your aquarium water!!! I'm a mechanic by trade and have tried everything I can to improve!! (Posted on 9/9/2013)
Very Good skimmer Review by steve
I had some of the same issues that others have had with skimmer overflowing. Did a little research and found an easy fix of putting a valve on the venturi hose. I guess it was taking in too much air but I turned it down and it skims consistantly with thick head of bubbles. Would have got 5 stars if not for the leg work and the price tag because it is a great skimmer on my 60g cube. (Posted on 9/19/2012)

Great skimmer Review by Rob

Skimmer works great Review by j5coat
Love this skimmer! it took me about 20 minutes to get it up and running, and within a day its skimming a nice dark liquid. The quality it also very good on this unit, i am happy with my purchase. (Posted on 1/24/2011)
expected more Review by jer
its an okay skimmer. i personally expected more for the price. Skimmer keeps overflowing when in water depths recommended by aquacave. i had to run mine with out the valve so it wont overflow since i cannot raise it higher due to my stand. works well in water depths around 6.5 and NOT 9-10 inches. Fairly loud humming sound. i here the skimmer more then my overflow. however it does skim fairly well. i am just not really impressed with it for 279.00 bucks. (Posted on 11/30/2010)
Great Skimmer for the Price Review by Derek
This is a great working skimmer for the price. It is a bit of a challenge to get the gate valve dialed in to produce the right amount of bubbles. Once the skimmer is set though, there is no need to keep adjusting it even when you unplug the unit for maintenance.
Lots of bubbles. The unit pulls in tons of air and the pump is all most completely silent.
Excellent skimmer! (Posted on 10/26/2010)
Greatest Skimmer for $$ Review by Redbellyman
I had it installed in roughly 10 minutes, and after a 2 minute tuning and learning curve of how to set it, I was starting to pull heavy skim out. This replaced ETSS reef devil, replaced coralife 125, replaced excaliber and I will never get anything else for my tanks. Overnight I pulled what my ETSS pulled in a week. I recommend an auto top off since your water will be cleaned so well it will need replacement
I love it. Highly Recommended! (Posted on 9/16/2010)
Undecided? Review by mkasper70
For those of you who are unsure, just buy a Reef Octopus skimmer!
This is my 4th skimmer (in less than a year). I had become so frustrated with all the wonderful claims made by so many skimmer manufacturers, only to be disappointed.
When this skimmer arrived, I just threw it in my sump and it started skimming immediately. That may by because I couldn't get my last skimmer (over $500)to work... and my tank hadn't been properly skimmed in over 6 weeks. However, this skimmer is skimming more in the first 12 hours than my last skimmer skimmed in 6 weeks.
I can assure you, you won't be disappointed with a Reef Octopus skimmer.
It is very easy to assemble. (Posted on 8/3/2010)
